Happy Summer!

I know summer doesn't technically start until later this month. And I know that for a lot of people, Memorial Day was the unofficial start of summer. But my Memorial Day was soggy and windy, and today it's sunny and green and so I'm decreeing that in my world and on Take the Side Street, it's now officially summer.

My family has completed our summer list for 2011, and it's proudly hanging on the fridge for all to see. Aidan helped me draw one of the suns, and he also drew all the boxes so we could check each activity off.

This is the last week of school for Aidan (Wes was out last Friday) and today his class is walking from the neighborhood school to the neighborhood park for a little bit of last week frivolity. We'll be taking his fabulous Kindergarten teacher her thank you gift today, too.

It's a group gift -- I called all the moms and lots of them pitched in to help. There's movie candy and a gift card for two tickets to the movie theater, plus there's a foot scrubber, lip gloss, and a spa gift card too. And then there's fruit punch gum, because it looked summery and I can't resist those darn checkout impulse buys.

(PS I know gift cuteness isn't my strong point. Let's focus on the things I'm good at, like sarcasm and eating doughnuts).

I'm looking forward to a beautiful summer day!

So is she:

It's Maggie's birthday today. She seems really excited to be turning two, doesn't she?
