It's the House with the Crazy Red Light Post...

Remember my post about introducing some whimsy into your decorating last month? Well, after I published it, I realized that I completely forgot to include the newest whimsical addition to my little casa.

Ta da! I'm sure my neighbors love me right now. Mike thinks it looks like it should be the Narnia light post, which I choose to take as a compliment. I'm just glad it isn't pathetic and rusty anymore:

See that? It was so sad with its dirty glass, and missing cross bar. Sniff.

I bought an inexpensive cross bar replacement kit at Lowe's but the bar was too wide for my sad little light post's holes, so I improvised with a wooden dowel cut to length and primed. I did use the round end caps from the kit though; I secured them with Gorilla Glue (since they were too large for the skinnier dowel) and smoothed the seams with painter's caulk. When all is said and done I think it turned out pretty nicely. 

In addition to fixing the bar and painting the post, I also frosted the glass in the lantern since the fixture takes one standard bulb instead of smaller decorative chandelier bulbs, and those big ole bulbs just aren't that attractive.

Is it a bit nutty and random? Sure!  But it makes me smile, and the post now matches my shutters and door, so if there are any neighbors up in arms over my whimsically colored light fixture, they're being quiet about it. And I appreciate that, y'all.
