When autumn rolls around and I start decorating, one of my main goals is to make the transition from an open and breezy aesthetic to more of a cozy and warm one. The easiest, most cost effective way to accomplish this (and maintain your sanity) is to focus on fabrics and decorative accents instead of starting from scratch like a decorator possessed.
Fabrics
Fabrics
Think texture. Think chunky cable-knit throws, think pillow covers in warm colors and soft fabrics. I love velvet at this time of year. You don't have to go overboard, a few touches go a long way.

Decorative accents
I like to go natural: wheat, leaves, gourds... but you do whatever makes your skirt fly up.

A few subtle changes will warm your nest right up for the season.
