ScotchBlue Painting Party & Giveaway

Hey y'all! It's a painting party, whoop-ee-dee-doo! Recently, ScotchBlue reached out to some DIY bloggers (including moi) to celebrate the launch of their new product, ScotchBlue Painter's Tape with Edge-Lock Paint Line Protector. We were sent samples and asked to complete a project using the tape and then to share our experiences with our readers, who would then get a chance to win a sample of their own.

.... are you back? Sweet. When I started thinking of projects I could complete to test out the fabulousness factor of this painter's tape, the first thing that sprang to mind was my master bedroom's unpainted crown moulding.

Yeah, that moulding. If you're familiar with my blog, you probably know that I was totally trying to bring the whole unpainted MDF trend to the forefront of the blogging world. It had been sitting up there in its unfinished glory for over a year now... this is where I admit that I'm totally lazy. Sigh. Who would have thought I'd ever get around to painting it? Certainly not me.

I was taking a big gamble (in my sheltered little paint world) by choosing this project because I don't have touchup paint for my custom-mixed ceiling paint, and if the tape didn't work, it was going to look really bad; I've always thought that crown needs to be super crisp. And since I left mine unfinished for over a year, if it didn't work I would most likely end up living with the ugly end result for another year while I shook my fist at my crown moulding and talked about how someone would rue the day. Or something.

I'm not going to lie -- I was never in love with the old school blue painter's tape. I've had many past projects complicated by bleeding paint, so I was a little bit nervous. But... I'm officially declaring my love for this new tape from the rooftops. (Imagine I'm on a rooftop.)

I taped either side of the crown moulding...

 then I primed it with oil-based primer and then gave it a couple coats of semi-gloss white paint.

Then it was the moment of truth -- I held my breath and started removing the tape... and to my delight, not a single bleed through. Loooooove it.

Whatever ScotchBlue did to their tape, it worked. I am a big fan of its edge-locking skills.
