Call the Halloween Police

I admit it, I'm feeling a bit Grinchy this Halloween season. And not in a good, holiday-appropriate way. In a Halloween equivalent of "bah humbug" sort of way.

 My heart's just not in it this year, try as I might to infuse my life with candy corn colored holiday spirit by eating ridiculous amounts of pumpkin-flavored treats.

 This is pretty much the extent of my decorating this year:

I think it might have something to do with our weather in general. We had a colder, shortish summer this year and my trees are having an 'off' year in the color department. Specifically, I have a maple tree in both my front and back yards that was goooorgeous last year. Looking at it every day brought me so much joy (is that silly to admit? Well, there you have it.)

So let's time travel to 2009...

Look at those spider webs, I was most definitely feeling the holiday spirit in 2009. I remember how long that took me (I'm a perfectionist, people -- not a fan of shoddy spider webs!)

 cue time traveling music:
{diddly doo, diddly doo, diddly doo!}

...and we're back. This year's tree turned dark reddy brown and crunchy looking. Sad times. Since I don't have joy-inducing color outside my window, I had to bring some inside.

Throw in a sparkly skeleton...

...and a Dollar Tree crow who gives the stink-eye...

And we are good for 2010.

Happy Halloween, y'all.

Even though I'm a big loser, my kids are excited. I'm actually working on finishing their costumes this week.
What are your kids dressing up as? Are you dressing up?

  2. I don't think the joy bringing tree sentiment is silly. I told my husband that the next time we buy a house we are house hunting in fall, because even though we have a big beautiful tree in the backyard, it may be the only tree in Michigan that turns butt ugly instead of gorgeous in fall. Freaken' lame.
    Also I think your halloween decor is cute. :)

  3. You didn't post a picture of the unused decorations sitting on the piano bench. Why not? :-)
